UNITED NATIONS FOUNDATION

Dear friend,
Copenhagen is more than the capital of Denmark. It’s home to Europe’s longest pedestrian street (the Strøget). It’s the birthplace of LEGO building blocks. And come December, it will host pivotal UN-led negotiations toward a new international agreement to combat climate change.
The goal: to build a comprehensive framework to reduce emissions, hold all countries -- developed and
developing -- to higher standards, and match the speed and scale of global response to
the rapidly worsening climate change.
Obviously world leaders have their work cut out for them. But what they
decide and how quickly they take action will have a profound effect on
all of us. For example: Longer, hotter heat waves will threaten infants and
the elderly. Fish and game stocks will drop. And droughts could lead to
conflicts over water, potentially involving the U.S. military.
We need your voices to join this discussion. The first step is to get educated
on the issue. You can read more about the road to Copenhagen at our
Web site, and see how climate frameworks have progressed over the past
20 years. And check out this glossary of common terms we’ll be using as
the campaign continues.
It’s only going to get more personal from here. Stay tuned for more details.
Best,
The UN Foundation Climate and Energy Team

About the UN Foundation
The UN Foundation, a public charity, was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner’s historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. We are an advocate for the UN and a platform for connecting people, ideas and resources to help the United Nations solve global problems.
We help the UN take its best work and ideas to scale—through advocacy, partnerships, constituency building and fund-raising.
-
Partnerships because we have learned what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together through the United Nations;
-
Advocacy because we know the leverage and impact that sound policy can have on the kind of social, economic and environmental change the UN seeks;
-
Community-building because the UN was created for “we the people,” and all of us can give back and contribute to a better world; and
-
We need new and additional resources to power solutions to global challenges.
Under the direction of our distinguished Board of Directors, we also work closely with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the United Nations Office for Partnerships. Find out more about our Board of Directors or our relationship with the United Nations.
